You observe wild animals, pass colorful houses and charming wooden churches and you enjoy gorgeous views over natural waters, endless moorlands, fresh grassland and deep woods. Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Białowieża
Individual arrival in Białowieża or optional transfer from Warsaw. Białowieża is a touristic centre in the famous primeval forest of the same name. Here, you sleep in a three star hotel with swimming pool and wellness area.
Day 2: Roundtrip Białowieża Primeval Forest (65 km)
Breakfast and then start of your first tour. You enter one of Europe’s last primeval forest land, Białowieża Forest. Deer, bisons (wisents), wolfs and even lynxes live here. You might meet one of these animals during your ride on the forest tracks of the national park. On the way, you can visit the impressive orthodox Holy Trinity’s Cathedral of the town of Hajnówka. Hotel as on previous day.
Breakfast. Today’s route guides you through the land of the orthodox Christians. In the villages you see charming wooden churches and chapels. Your will ride through the Narew valley passing pretty villages with only one long street with colorful, elaborately decorated wooden houses. You stay in an nice hotel in one of these villages.
After breakfast you go further north. The biggest attraction today is the pretty town of Tykocin. Here, you can visit the big synagogue from 1642 that is today a museum for Jewish culture. You sleep in a guesthouse on the edge of Biebrza National Park, the biggest and most natural peatland in Central Europa.
Breakfast. You ride through the largest marshes of Poland. Observe the wild moose from numerous observation towers. Soon, you reach the lakeland. Augustów town is a holiday place between several lakes and it’s known for its water sport options. The Augustów Canal of more than 100 km length from Belarus to Poland, built in the 19th century, passes right through the town.
Breakfast. Today, you cross another huge woodlands, the Augustów Primeval Forest (a heath) and the Wigry National Park. In the village of Bryzgiel you can rest having a scenic view on Wigry Lake. After that, you proceed westward. Accommodation in Olecko. You are already in the former East Prussia where you will continue for the rest of the tour.
Breakfast. Today’s route leads you through another large and extraordinarily beautiful woodland – Borkener Forst. The gently hilly area is crossed by excellent gravel roads. Pretty little lakes are hidden in the woods. You pass the breeding compound for wisents. Later, you reach the historically interesting town of Giżycko, the most important touristic centre of Masuria. You can for example visit the Prussian Boyen Fortress. Accommodation in Giżycko.
After breakfast you take off for the last stage of your tour, the centre of Masuria. Right in the middle of the route, you pass the small town of Mikołajki, the “Pearl of the Masuria”. It has an idyllic but modern town centre, a nice sailing marina and old fisherman’s houses. The path through the woods leads to the small but lively holiday village of Krutyń. Overnight stay in Krutyń.
Krutyń village is situated in the middle of the Masurian landscape park. The exceptionally picturesque Krutyń River flows through the village and it is a popular canoe route. Today, individual departure (option: transfer to Warsaw). You also have the possibility to extend your stay in Krutyń in order to discover the surroundings by bike or kayak.
